I think those who hate Heiner donāt really understand the reality of life. Heās not a saint, and neither is Annette. They both have flaws, and the story is about their beautiful journey of learning to forgive each other and heal, without constantly misunderstanding and hurting one another.
Wellā¦that is the thingā¦she did nothing. She lived a life of luxury but this luxury was funded by blood money. She knew this and turned a blind eye to all of it because she valued her own happiness and comfort. She herself acknowledges this throughout the manwhaā¦and like any person who has morals, they would realize how ignorant they were and naturally feel the need to repent for this, which she is doing by performing acts of service. This is called character development.
It doesnāt say it explicitly but is it not obvious? A mega wealthy family ruling over people who are suffering and dying? They could use that money to help but don't because theyāre greedy and evil lol itās a tale as old as time. Itās obvious why she and her family were living comfortably.
Also she was aware but she ignored it, she herself acknowledged this multiple times. I donāt know if this scene appears in the manwha but in the novel thereās a woman crying in front of the gate and Annette sees but instead of investigating why this women was crying hysterically she continued on about her day. this is what we call privilege. She was a detached from others sufferings.
And just to be clear, I donāt believe she is malicious but she was definitely a privileged and ignorant noblewoman.
Ok now, youāre assuming she Ought to be aware NOT that she explicitly knewā¦
In my reading, so far the Female Royals are more like jewelry, shiny but no real power without their husbands/ fathers to add valueā¦
Annette, the FL had to hide her talent in composing music⦠even sth like that was highly frowned upon..
So you think , someone as sheltered as her would be able to fathom such degree of strife her countrymen were going through non less orchestrated by her father⦠itās impossibleā¦
She has never heard/ seen / read about such situation so her mind CAN NEVER comprehend itā¦
That is what being sheltered meansā¦
You donāt get it. She did see people suffering, people would literally go to her mansions front gate and cry hysterically. If you were in her situation would you not be curious as to why people were showing up to your doorstep crying? Of course you would! lol but she never did. You know why? Because she was PRIVILEGED. She CHOSE to be ignorant. Thatās what privilege is. She chose to detach herself from peoples pain. Was it intentional? no! But it was still wrong.
Like are we not reading the same story? She obviously feels great guilt. One of the reasons heiner hated her was because of thisā¦.the poor people hated her people because of this.
If you donāt see the issue then idk what to tell you. Go read a a book about how not acknowledging privilege allows people to not address systemic issues.
ok... let's say she did look away..
What would have happened if she didn't... or if she asked or tried to intervene???? what???
Look, privileged or not DID NOT MEAN she contributed to their plight.. damn!!!
There were literally millions of women Heiner would have fallen far, BUT he went to the most Secure, Sheltered, Privileged "ignorant"/ naive one ... This is who she is, how she was born. Her world was limited, and she was taught not to think hard about world issues.
She was trained to only be prim and proper.. no thoughts just follow her dad's orders that's why he rejected her trying to just compose music.. it was too rebellious for him.
Annette was trained not to think but do... I will never fault her for that...
This will be my last response because weāre just going in circles atp
it makes sense that you see her inaction as a product of how she was raised to be sheltered, taught to be prim and proper, and not to question things. However that scene where she sees people crying outside her mansion but doesnāt react shows how disconnected her world is from theirs. Privilege isnāt about her personally causing their pain or being a bad personā¦itās about how her position like living in a mansion, insulated from hardship. This means she doesnāt have to confront or understand those struggles the way others do. Her not questioning it doesnāt make her evil, but it highlights how privilege can create a blind spot. Sheās in a bubble not everyone has. So for the last time! She is not malicious but the system she was living under is oppressive! Technically no one has to forgive her but any person with morals who was in her position would feel bad after realizing that because while she was comfortable others were suffering.
But the people crying outside her gates ( the oppressed) who donāt have that same bubble of safety, might still feel frustrated or even resent her. And itās not about her actions, itās about what she representsā¦a system that keeps them down while sheās untouched. Their feelings are valid because their struggles are real, even if Annette didnāt cause them. Itās like if youāre starving and see someone with a feast, they donāt owe you their food, but you might still feel bitter.
a lot of the character development of this story was Annette growing and seeing the real world for the first time. And like it or not heiner was a victim of the oppressive system which she benefited from. His actions towards Annette werenāt right but I understand them.( I donāt think he shouldāve acted that way) Which being brings up another point
To me the story is like this: The oppressed became the oppressor. But thatās also a story of heiner realizing how his thought process and his actions were wrong.
Do you get the story now?
Heiner was oppressed by the system Annette benefited from.
And Annette was oppressed by Heiner when he abused her.
