It's obvious he's not in that company because he wants to be, he's not good at it because it's obvious that's not the profession he would've chosen. He just can't let go of the hope of gaining at least some of his dad's recognition someday, but it's evident he needs to see his dad will never give it to him, in order to start living his wn life. It's never easy to come to terms that a parent doesn't love you.
