I mean, they switch between past and present like it's nothing. For us, mdzs fans, it's okay 'cause we already know the story but still... (￣∇￣")
Tgcf and mdzs have a bad habit of frequently and sometimes erratically jumping between the past and the present but you have to remember that Wei Ying is dead at the beginning of mdzs and DianXia is over 800 years but then again none of MXTX's books really start at the beginning. Though tgcf kinda does get pretty close.
