That chapter 5... most of the time, in that situation... Someone hears their conversation, tells the owner or master who is secretly working with a higher up in a government office (usually a chief of police) and when the two lovers prepare to elope, the police finds himself arrested/framed/ or in dipshit with the department he's working for, while the other one would either wait in vain thinking that his lover was lying to him, or tortured to death or brutally raped and sold, either in pieces or whole, to a completely sick and perverted sadists, and the police guy would be utterly devastated when he sees what happened to his prostitute lover, who is either very angry at him or just a husk after the drugs and rape...
