lol it’s probably cause of the main user base of mangago. Other sites are actually VERY different to how they treat harems and bl series

The user base here are mostly people who read bl and majority of them don’t like harems because of how shitty a lot of them are (unnecessary fanservice and one-note characters and how there are no good guy characters around mc because they’re seen as “competition”), so they associate harems with bad writing.

However, bl action stories usually have both well-written male AND female characters. And, so they associate bl with good writing.

They don’t just want bl(usually), they just want good writing (I.e. how solo leveling does have a straight romance, but people still like it because it’s well-written) same with the shoujo manhwas and stuff on this site. They like it because the authors usually give both love to the male AND female characters.

But yeah, the tropes in harems make it so that reading them can be frustrating and the characters aren’t seen as appealing because they’re very one note. Not to mention, a lot of people like girl characters that are “girl crushes” and most girls in harem are constantly saved by the mc because harem, or they’re “pseudo-strong” and can be very annoying with how they treat the mc like shit and boss them around(instead of actually making them cool/badass)

Of course, not all harems are bad. I’ve read a few that were good, but they do hinder the story imo. Especially when there are ONLY good girl characters and all the guy characters are bad. It just becomes very jarring for a story. I’ve had to drop multiple stories before that I enjoyed at the beginning, but when I realized that pattern, I just couldn’t take it seriously anymore.

Anyway, that’s why people don’t like the harem genre, and this story just so happened to have a possible gay ship, so the user base who loves bl on this site are obviously gonna see it as “being the better option”
