i keep on having mixed feelings on the 2nd male lead like.

Actually it was hinted earlier that it was his mother pushing him. Because there can be only one end to a crown prince (first born son of the throned empress) who doesn’t ascend the throne himself. That is death. And in extension his own mother and possibly her family as well. That’s why he is desperate.
The Story aside, there's just something wrong about the art...Like i get that theyre gorgeous but there's something wrong with it but idk where is it specifically
i thought the same too... maybe bc there's no pupil drawn that's why the art looks weird?
They're all cross-eyed and the artist doesn't draw insides of mouth which puts the faces into that 'weird' category.
There's a bit more to it too, but it boils down to that the artist isn't really good at drawing (talented if you will) but they put enough of work hours into this that they are mechanically skilled, just not good at observing and then reproducing what they see. It's miniscule and only slightly off, but because humans evolve to see off, we perceive it like a brick to the head. They also overrelay on posable 3d dolls and when they use them the quality is up, esp at the beginning, but it leads to more issues with perspective and shortening which this artist doesn't know how to naturally correct, and it makes their characters look somewhat anatomicallycorrect but very stiff as the posable dolls don't compensate for muscles working with movement . Also they chose very flowery style of drawing, that doesn't lend itself to making it look more perceptualy natural (goddamn, I don't think that even Kardashians could wear those eyelashes, lmao).
This is not to smack down on the person, because they do put a lot of work in, it's just there is a difference in 'natural' quality between some people's work.
wow that's a detailed answer, thank you ahahaha. now that you explained every bit of it i kinda see what you're talking about
Sorry, not sorry, haha. I spent way too much time thinking why I don't like what I see in this toon (except the obvious sausage dicks, lmao). I find it good exercise to not make same mistakes in art when I can express what doesn't work in other works and let's me figure out how to have distance to critique my own work and get better.
But just in case:
TL;DR
Humans evolved to see even a hair off to survive in wilds. If the artist isn't good enough and uses shortcuts for art, we perceive the art as being off. But we can't really say that out loud, because it comes across as 'the artist just sucks'.
the art has changed a lot since the first chapter and lowered in quality as well as being stiffer, i think the artist may be rushing to keep to deadlines because i don’t remember it being like this at the start
They also stopped using so much 3d models, because it takes time to set them up nicely. They stopped redrawing 3d backgrounds and now just drop prontscreens. They defo are time crunching.
It doesn't come across as so, it's literally what you said. Since when does art have to look perfect? why are you people here so goddamn critical? I really want to see the shit you all produce. I understand when a certain style just isn't your cup of tea, but writing a whole paragraph about how the artist "isn't very good at drawing" is a bit pretentious no matter how you look at it. Art is subjective. It's not about "technical perfection". Ugh.
Because I can. I could ask you why are you so defensive tho, it's nothing personal to you, so why do you care? And it's not about technical perfection, you clearly have issues with comprehension. I literally said the artist is skilled, they put a lot of work into their technique, it's good. What is missing is spirit. They don't understand why stuff look how they look, but they know the mechanics of how to move their hand to make a mark, that's why the art is so weird.
My point is that there are different styles in art, and again, it's subjective. I don't think it's missing "spirit", whatever you mean by that vague statement. It might lack in emotional depth compared to other works, and isn't conventional, but that doesn't mean it's inherently bad, does it? It seems to me from your original comment that you just don't like it, and that's totally fine. But instead, it feels like you're emphasizing what you don't like about it, without considering how it could have its own appeal. Everyone has their preferences, and what may resonate with one person may not with another. Rather than labeling it as weird, why don't we appreciate the diversity of artistic expression? This one might not vibe with you, that's okay, it's all about personal taste and what clicks with each person.
You explained it perfectly. I'm personally most bothered by the stiffness of the characters, it's horrible but I believe the artist has a lot of potential if they continue drawing
is it that serious? no one said the artist is shit, we’ve all complimented them but it’s not crazy to comment on the notice decrease in quality over the weeks. literally go back to chapter 1, the seme is unrecognisable and the uke looks pretty different too. and i may not be leonardo da vinci but still it’s pretty obvious how unnatural and stiff the characters are posed at times. the art is still pretty damn good but there’s just tiny things that are noticeable. pointing them out isn’t the end of the world
Very true, there's a lot of difference with the first chapter. Having read other stuff the artist has worked on I even thought they’ve used AI to finish rendering the drawings, because of that off feeling it's giving
