I know it's frustrating, but I do really like that he treats Elincia well. I like that he learned his lesson and doesn't go down the path of "I need to treat my new daughter like shit, so that my old daughter feels better"

Yeah, that’s true. He doesn’t really seem to have favoritism either

The plot is driven by random bullshit. No character has proper motivation, they all have the object permanence of a toddler. Idk man, I wish authors would realize that even when you're writing a kind, selfless, but tortured character, you need to give them some goal, or at least make their lack of goals important to the story. This kind of character would find a leak in the roof, and instead of fixing it, they'd wipe away the leak everyday, while pitifully sighing about how they probably deserve this.

One interesting thing I've noticed is that Remilia doesn't consider her body as hers. She calls it "Emi's Remilia" and IDK I just love how the centre of this manga is their devotion to one another's happiness.

Really?? A reborn historical romance manhwa where the main heroine has a small power over time, in a shape of an everyday decorative object, that she received from a higher power after her untimely death??? I know all of these villainess Manhwa are different copies of the same concept, but a less interesting copy of an already famous copy is just too much.

Sure, the art style is pretty, but in such an extremely generic way that it's kitsch. Everything is so stiff, the poses and expressions are extremely uninteresting. There's nothing unique here. I'd recognize the art style of "The Villainess reverses the hourglass" anytime, even if they drew characters from a different story. I'd honestly prefer the art to be less refined, because then it'd at least have some character.

The characters are boring. They're so boring I actually can't think of anything to say about them. The kind main character, who you can tell is kind because she's smiling nicely (。◕‿◕。) and not meanly like the other woman(ಡ  ʖ ಡ), and not because she actually does anything kind. She's there, she technically has a goal, but you know nothing will come of it and all her problems are going to be solved by coincidence or the male lead. The male lead is just conceptually not great. What tension is there, when he falls for her immediately after reborning??? The villainess mocks the FL publicly and then immediately stabs her afterwards?? What the hell?? There's no motivation, that makes no sense. Either she's in a position that allows her to brag or she's in a desperate position that forces her to kill. I also like how we can note that she's evil based on her showing her cleavage. Very cool and very historically accurate, I can see a lot of effort went into the designs.

Genuinely, if this concept sounds remotely interesting to you, just read "The villainess reverses the hourglass". Sure, the male lead is also kind of boring, but the main character has a strong drive and acts in a way that will achieve her plans and the plotting is genuinely interesting. Already read that?

Consider:
The one within the villainess: Beautiful art and very interesting FL that plans the ruin of a kingdom

The broken ring: The FL marries the uncaring cheating ml, but he realizes his mistakes and genuinely repents. I liked it!

Death is the only ending for the villainess: Previously cold MLS and family have to repent in the eyes of the brokenhearted FL!

The Stepmother's märchen: A girl send back on time has to ensure that her family can live a happy life, despite the political troubles surrounding her family! Best art on here imo and very unique

How to get my husband on my side: Cold husband suspects his wife to be a spy for her family, not knowing they abused her. Go read this if you want to see misunderstandings whump!

Read all of these? Well maybe it's time to face the music! When the villainess manhwas were a new concept (I think "The reason why Raeliana ended up at the duke's mansion" made it popular but I don't think it's the first), many authors decided to use it to showcase their unique ideas, characters and stories. But that time has passed, and most people releasing new Villainess manhwas now, are beating a dead horse, because what aspiring author would enter such an overfilled market?? There are obviously still great stuff being released, but it's few and far apart. Which is a shame, because when it's good, it's so good that you understand why everyone's doing it.

seems like its japanese so it's just a shojo but they tried to use manhwa's style. everything you said is very point on.

Manga designed specifically to tear me apart.

They took a look at the ugly motherfucker from Painter of the night, then the still-ugly-but-less-than-the-other-one motherfucker from killing stalking and put them in a blender to whip up this guy.

Bro, reading this makes me kind of sad. I have basically no interest in feminine fashion and I can't be bothered with make-up, but!! But!!!! But let that old man wear a lipstick!! Let him wear a pretty dress?!! Let him own a beautiful stationary set!! Ghaaaaaadddddddddd!!!!! That is the direction this story is going in right?! They wouldn't be so cowardly as to make a whole series about an old man who wants to be feminine and a young boy who's feminine and not let the old man be feminine even once! C'mon?!!!

NOOOOO FUCKKK MY SUPER COOL ESSAY GOT ERASED BEFORE I HIT POST NOOOOOOOO

Anyway in short, by giving this story two protagonists, with the POV male mc being in the more passive role and the female mc being in an active role, the author managed to avoid the curse of Shoujo or Shounen tropes, and gets to pick what fits the story best, which makes this a fun read!

These titles don't even make sense anymore. Quick, write "Dungeon, level, skill, leveling, mercenary, over-powered, regression" on a dice, roll it a couple times, and congrats, you have a published manhwa.

    Zwat November 19, 2024 4:41 am

True, but people tend to find regression manhwa. Some don't read synopsis so if the title doesn't include this keyword, they might look past it. Nowadays they wanna grab potential reader's attention quickly. Titles like ToCF and ORV might not be profitable immediately unless there's a solid fandom base. Publishers of course want immediate profit.

Parts I liked:
-The art is gorgeous!!! I especially like how they use two panels to show subtle changes in expression.
-Story is great, I was on the edge of my seat through the finale
-The character designs are great, you can't tell who's good and who's evil from how attractive they are and I love that
-One more shout-out for the fashion and architecture
-The complex setting is explained very well

Parts I loved:
-Angelo's whole deal. Goes from his naive clumsy guy to "Me?? A spy?? You wound me!" In a way that feels natural and true to his character
-Gay as hell. "Someday I'll hang him and give you his corpse." But Miguel still tries to act like they're not even friends
-The humor and the tension!!
-All the Spaniards are great and fun
- Giovanni <3 he's to me, what clumsy big breasted Moe girl is to the mainstream. All the Medicis were great.
-This manga deals with the expulsion of Muslims from Spain and the violent persecution of the Jewish people through out Europe, yet it's somehow most offensive to the french. Love that.

Parts I didn't like:

- Columbus is a repeating character and none punched him in the dick. Tragic.

- Don't be cowards! Da Vinci didn't return to Florence not out of "poor reputation", but out of "a Sodomy charge"
-Bit inconsistent in it's themes, which usually works as the whole point is Cesare questioning what's right and wrong, but. You can't start the whole manga off with "My father is a monster" and then have him be a bit of jerk. Plus Cesare clearly values him and helps him, idk I didn't get it.
- I don't really mind the creepy sister (although if you'd like to know, no, there are no historical records of incest happening between these two), but it didn't go anywhere. I mean she didn't even get to talk to Cesare once and had no effect on the plot. Kind of a waste. Same with gay priest Rafaello
