I feel like the story should be better if the spinels had any other distinguishing feature beside dark skin, hair and eyes. It's just uncomfortable reading a story which deals with a real problem (slavery), without an ounce of realism. When the duke said "because he's mine" or something, i vomited in my mouth. Maybe if the duke tried to get into government and change the laws or some other magic solution, I'd be fine with it, but the dude does the bear minimum of not being a total asshole and is treated as though he's an angel from above. Can't tell if this is some weird savior fantasy of saving a black slave ( but don't worry, he has straight hair and blue eyes, so you don't have to put yourself down), or if this is just incompetent and not at all thought out storytelling.
The way I feel when he said that line was to show others that he is his, while not exposing their romantic feelings. Like hinting subtly that he is his lover and not to be shared but he can't really say that out loud.
Don't get me wrong, I fully understand that that was supposed to be a romantic moment. It was just badly executed one. If he said "He's one of my people." I'd live for it, since it would clearly show that he sees Dev at an equal level. When I read that, i don't see "despite their social standing, they've found love and comfort within each other", but "Rich dude, bought a slave and is now possessive of it.".
Yup definitely would have been better if he said that instead I see it now with the last part you said
I feel like this is less "bl" and more so the universal "being a dumb gay in middle school with a super nice and lovely classmate" experience.
And because of this I genuinely don't mind if they don't end up together. The reason why I have Nakamura as my pfp, is because i relate to him so much. This emo girl in my class was so cute and nice, and i had a huge crush on her. Like i'd imagine our anniversary even though we barely spoke lol. But then I became more social and we started to get along and you know what? If i confessed to her today, she'd refuse me and tell her friends that there's a creepy lesbian in the class. Because that's simply the experience of being a silly little dumb gay.

Hello! I have a question for the readers of the novel. I really like the story, but it is unbearable due to the second hand embarrassment and shame, that I'll probably feel for Maxi till Riftan finds out about the abuse. Considering how much of the novel was covered with the manhwa so far, how long do you think we'll have to wait? It has to happen at one point, so i don't think my comment is a spoiler, but if you do reply to this with an answer to my question, don't forget to tag it as such for the others :)
To answer your question from get-to-go It will take time, alot of time.
Especially the Manhwa Updates Every 10 days, so 3 chapter in 1 Month... and each chapter cover about 1-3 chapter of the novel (?) And riftan found out about it far into the novel (Like a couple Hundreds)... so yeah, ALOT OF TIME.
Under The Oak Tree, Even as a fan of the novel, is Hella SlowBurn. I can relate to everyones frustration... ╥﹏╥ I personally think thay If I started the novel at its early stage, I would've probably stopped it... Not Because I don't like the story, but simply because I don't have the patience to wait (One of the reason I always End Up Reading the Novels of the Manhwa/Manga/Manhua I read..)
I advice maybe postpone reading this, and get back to it once it get's a couple of chapters ahead! So you can maybe enjoy it fully! Their story is really good, both as a development as a Couple Or as an Individual, Tho it does take a while(I do personally Like How they took thier time with it, makes the moments and development, so worthwhile!) but overall (atleast to where we are now in the novel) the stories is amazing! (Personal Opinion)

I do actually like the story, but c'mon, they're all inteligent people in power and the big bad villainess isn't subtle at all (if she was written so badly on purpose, for satirical reasons, i didn't catch it.). I'm sure if the author though about it for a bit, they could've come up with a better misunderstanding between them than this.

I really love the art style in this! I'm so tired of obviously copy and pasted in limbs and faces. I understand why you would do that for accessories, but for the main characters entire body? That's a bit too much. But here everything is expressive, especially Regina! She isn't my favorite kind of main character, but i still really like her. It's nice that her personality isn't "I'm loud, dumb and weak to handsome men!(≧∀≦)", but actually something that makes the conflicts more interesting.
On a final note, I'd like to point out that we finally have a busty protag. Not the protag we needed, but protag we deserved.
