strangely enough it's kinda both?
MC personality is strong and independent but she realizes her powerlessness in the face of her circumstances and seeks the aid of strong (male) characters to assist her. that being said she is currently perfectly independent as her initial obstacles have been overcome as of the current chapters.
it's a pretty good read, it has it's ups and downs but the story and characters are mostly pretty decent.
