I was actually happy that author showed both Yoon and Taejoo's story. I dunno why people are mad that author put effort into the ex's story but it was important not only for our MC but also to show how love can be taxing sometimes. His incorrect choices made him and his loved ones hurt but it was justified. The man was devastated. Imagine your so called lover( now an ex) who you thought was dead came back to you and asking you to take him back into your life!?!?
Of course you won't and any emotionally vulnerable person would probably act the way Taejoo did.
As for ML he was typical in the beginning and then slowly started to accept his love for MC
