Being compared to someone is one of the most hurtful sayings parents, guardians, adults tell their kid. They’d expect you to do just as good but don’t recognize the damage caused by it. These types of things we sadly have to overcome them ourselves. You would expect parents would be more mindful of what they say because they were once kids but no crushing a kids confidence to just them to possibly do better is a horrible way to see them improve. Since people in the comments have different sides, ill also express my opinion. As someone who was abused by my family. I can see how she came to grow up scared and insecure, but when this happened to me, i was more pissed off traumatized and I came to study more to be independent because i dont want to live in that house. I rebelled alot because there was no one to teach me whats right. I hated everyone and wanted to get a way even If i had to use acting to get what I needed (thats all ill disclose since its a personal topic). Maybe since shes illegitimate her real parents were naturally kind and stuff and it turns out she was kidnapped etc but if she was raised with that family since she was a newborn, i would expect that her heart has been some what tainted and she’d be more cold (not all people are the same yeah i might be exaggerating my bad). Its a natural reaction to overthink, be scared but in my world i eventually got tired of it all. Mc is kind and beautiful in order for her to be given to the king she was treated badly but with some care if you know what i mean. I wish theyd show more of her backstory in stead of less then a chapter showing everything summarized because i wouldve had a firm grasp of her situation.
