since i come from a country that was colonized by japan and they committed various grave crimes (comfort women, burning and killing thousands), i can’t help but feel like i’m only seeing the good things about the japanese going to war here. idk i couldn’t watch anime when i was in elementary after i learned about comfort women and only recently just took it up again, so i feel a bit iffy about reading about this now. i’m rambling now i’m sorry but yeah i just feel like i need to see an admittance of their faults as well, although i am very sad about all the stories here.

I'm also from a former japanese occupied country, so I assure you that you are within your rights to be confused or angry about japanese related thing.
The Japanese have raises terror for about 6 years in ASEAN countries (except Thailand) so its understandable why you are feeling that way since some of us may still have living relatives who had suffered under the Far East Regime.
I'm not saying that Japanese is not glorifying themselves but aren't all countries like that? (Those who win have the rights to write their own history). Besides, the present Royal family of Japan and elected Prime ministers has already showed their remorse from what happened. They learned that they were living a lie and that they were not a strong country like they thought they are after losing the Pacific War.
I'm a scholar of warfare history so forgive me if I come off as someone lenient to the past crimes of Japan. I don't only study result of a war/battle but also the how's and whys of a war. I have always enjoyed reading and analyzing reasons from from all sides about wwii so don't be afraid to voice out your concern.

thank you for sharing your thoughts! i really do understand that countries tend to whitewash history to the point that they become the heroes, with the united states who also colonized and used my country, as a prime example. but i guess it still bothers me because i never really saw or heard of any actual decent admissions or apologies made to the victims. sure i’ve seen articles about money being given, but i’m not exactly sure that would be enough for the victims and what they were forced to live through and experience.

I really like to ask what's the point of saying that over here .I mean I am also from India,we were also colonized by British people but you know if I have to judge I will only blame the British government that was there and not the people .In this manga, the author is not only showing how those people 's family suffered when their family members went to fight a war . It has nothing to do with showing any glory of Japan or anything.I think man you are not at all reading this manga properly and you should read it again and also stop thinking about the past when we all live in present with peace

The British were the reason for the colonization of about 90% of the world just for spices and they decided to fuck it and still have bland food. The British were also the reason why India and Pakistan have a border issue, they really did a lasting consequence to your country.
I think the author did a very effective portrayal of a commoner japanese sufferings that it invokes OP's grudge. I think they really did read this manga properly because they start to question what to feel. OP's confusion is a sign that they are starting to see this issue in an another man's shoe.
And I agree with letting bygones be bygones. It's like being accountable of a large debt that your ancestor left you. For instances like the Korea-Japan trade war happening now, where Korea still held Japan accountable to what happened during the war. China's the one who suffered the most but they don't go blaming Japan every now and then.
he doesn’t forget leg day, that’s for sure lmao
