I don't love knowing the fact he was forced to expose himself in order to get an ounce of decent treatment from the FL and the readers. To be completely honest I personally don't understand why anyone would love knowing that.
It's not that he had to expose himself. Communication needs to go both ways. Abigail has already made several attempts to improve their relationship and they are all hindered by his trauma. If he refuses to even consider those efforts in order to protect himself then there can be no healing in their relationship. It will be completely broken. They might as well just divorce. Its choosing to pursue those relationships and the healing they can bring him rather than the pain they might uncover. It takes courage and that's why we admire it. And also, he didn't need to expose himself. He could've just given her the reason that he couldn't touch her because he had a phobia to women or a problem with physical contact. Abigail would have accepted it. But if two people are ever to be truly close, exposure is inevitable.
No one forced him though. His daughter asked him to apologize to the FL not tell his story. HE CHOSE to do it if his own violation. The FL assumed he didn’t like her bc of her past self actions and just in general. The FL was nothing but decent to him. She stayed out of his way, asked the bare minimum which was to treat his child with some sort of decency. His trauma is bad yes, but creating a cycle of trauma isn’t good either.
If your husband gagged at the sight oh you and refused to even spend time with you I doubt you would be empathetic and understanding towards him if you didn’t know he had a genuine problem. How was she supposed to know? I think given the way he treated her, she was more than graceful about his multiple rejections.
He wasn’t obligated to tell her anything, like the previous comments said, he could’ve just apologized to her and accepted the fact that she might resent him. But he chose to try to mend their relationship and be transparent with his WIFE. She’s not a random person but his partner! So I really respect him for taking the more difficult road of facing his trauma with the help of his wife and trying to heal from it.
