im just repeating what i read from previous comments. So apparently eclis betrayed penelope because he's so deeply in love with her. Eclis wants penelope to be his and only his. So he purposely brought back (not quite sure about this one) yvonne, the real daughter to the house. He thought that maybe after the real daughter is back, penelope will leave the house and eclis can have her all by himself. But unfortunately yvonne is a bad guy and caused more suffering to penelope.
