I feel bad for Dan and his grandma, we're also not rich so I can totally understand how hard to raise a child on your own and give them a proper access to education and the fact that the grandma is already old when she's raising Dan.

This actually reminds of the days when me and my siblings are in our grand parents' care in the province cuz my papa and mom are working in different city thus they can't go back home to live with us.
Life is so fucking hard, there are times that we have to put salt and water to our rice just for us have food for dinner or sometimes we use coffee as a soup so our food won't be too dry to eat. Thou we're still fortunate that my gradpa and uncle are farmers and a fishermen, we have rice fields and other planted vegetables that serves as food source whenever we lack of money but there are still times that we can't eat our own harvests.

It's already hard for us in the province even if we can plant vegetables, rice, or do fishing. So, I can't imagine how poor people like Dan who lives in the city survive irl, I can't blame them if they resort to dangerous things just to survive (like what happened to Dan). No wonder whenever a poor province ppl who tries to find work or good opportunity in the big city changes when they go back home in the province, it's either their lives become better or it worsen.
