A lot of people are really bothered by them, especially when they smile, because they look crazy (more so like yanderes specially).

I think it's just the artist not being particularly great a subtle expressions or sometimes even just plain ones (especially smiling, happy faces). The main one just being how large almost all the smiles are that at times just seem to go beyond being nature (and human at times (mainly looking at Ednymion here, but tbh he also doesn't seem the most sane either so yeah.... )), the eyebrows don't always work well nor do their eyes with the expressions that they are suppose to making, but another big part in what makes expressions work is body language (and like, I'm going back and I'm realizing that this might actually be the problem or the main one besides the creepy smiles, like it took me a bit to think of it so I'm not sure how noticeable it is, bc the artist did try and I can tell that). A lot of times they just seem stiff and when they try matching the character's mood, it's like sometimes their body language decide dedicate half their energy in expressing said moods/emotions or they'll have a certain emotion with body language and then it'll just stop? Ah, I don't know if I'm explaining this right or not and I admit that I'm mainly self taught. A lot of times when they're just standing or even sitting they just seem stiff and I feel like that will effect how their expressions will come off and how natural it would look.
It's important to pay attention to body language all the time, whether the character is sitting, laying down, eating, or walking, because it effects not just how natural or interesting a character is, but it can also display the character's whole personality as well. The same goes for expressions, but I feel most people probably already know (like you could have a character with a good smile and have the eyebrows right, but how the expression comes off can change drastically if you change their eyes (like their expression can change from looking actually happy to like they're just doing a fake smile to even looking expressionless and either broken/crazy (basically like they're having mental breakdown))).

Like compare other manhwa, manga, webcomics, comics, or even just art references of body language (the last shows what to do and what not to do when you're trying to draw people). Some examples Who Made Me A Princess, Black Butler, Naruto, Remarried Empress, etc. If anyone else recommendations, you can offer them, I just named some off the top of my head that had a variety of genres (which resulted in some old ones being mentioned ).
