I'm honestly confused because even if he had a Gender it would undoubtedly be male or else the author wouldn't have mentioned something like that at the beginning, yes he was male in his past life but is now Genderless but their are more than enough resemblance that he can still undoubtedly be male even with his current looks as El. Men in fantasy worlds or in the very past were known to have very long hair, sometimes as long as a woman, El's body is undoubtedly formed to look like a male but it throws people off because of the long hair that frames his body. Honestly I don't think the author should try and do anything about his gender and just keep it the way it is, sure many might think he is a girl because of his round framed face but when you take in his slightly broad shoulders and ignore the long hair or at least see the hair as cut shorter than he would look more like Trowell. His mind set has already adapted to think of himself as male, and I believe many should uphold that instead of using She/Her pronouns because if the author really wanted it then they could completely throw everyone upside down and make El have an actual male body. Not ever man must look like a warrior of some sorts in fantasy worlds, and honestly it's just getting annoying to see people using She/Her pronouns when HE prefers the HE/HIM pronouns that people honestly just need to respect.
Thank you for listening to my TED Talk.

I guess it's just his face that makes people( in the story) think that he is a girl. Because ever time before he takes his hood of or is just covering his face, people can clearly see that he has long hair and they believe that El is a he. But you right, it is kinda annoying how they don't believe that El prefers he/him pronounce and despite being genderless, identifies as male.
