Because it seems that way to me if he’s slowly accepting the fact of Lucia being pleasant to be around. Looks like the artist cut out some parts from the novel, at least I’m not sure if they would include the fact she had to choose who to sit next to. Or the fact she couldn’t bring eclis along with her
