The last dozen chapters have been so weird and annoying. Everyone loves lippe, lippe is the best and kindest person ever and forgives Haillena. Such a weird idea to introduce a new character so fucking late - and then she dies. It feels like she was only there because the author wanted someone to die but didn't want to sacrifice anyone of the main cast. Weird ass shit.
Also the expressions are getting on my nerves so badly, everyone looks the same when they have specific face expressions. I'm esp talking about that face where they bite their lip. Or when the veins pop. It looks ridiculous and then EVERYONE does it. It makes them look indistinguishable.
I really liked the beginning and I liked when lippe and rias got together but the middle part (idol singing era) and this are so weird. Everything is so rushed and anticlimactic and boring. Like the final showdown with emperor was so??? Bland??? And then he randomly reappears and vanishes again. But actually it's not over yet, there's another evil guy so another boring fight ensues and the cherry on top is the characters dropping dead and then getting up again until the sacrificial lamb haillena actually dies.
Ok, I'm SO close to just dropping this.
It always had its problems but the art is pretty, navier is a decent lead and I was intrigued by rashtas story. Shocking, I know, but I genuinely liked her parts the most. I wanted to see what would happen next and I wanted her to get a happy ending somehow. She's a complex character and I gave the author the benefit of the doubt of doing something good with it. That trust was misplaced.
Rashta, who was abused and used by every single man in her life, ended up dying. And apparently she was made to be more sympathetic in the webtoon compared to the og novel, for example in her dying scene. I know that she did horrible things but this is what happens to a character that
1. Was enslaved
2. Was basically statutory raped by her owner
3. Had her baby taken way and been lied to that it died
4. Was sexually abused (sorry, the power imbalance makes it impossible for me to see it another way) by the fucking emperor of the kingdom
5. Then used as an incubator by said emperor
6. Left to fend for her own in a highly competitive and complex new environment despite having no education or social skills because duh, she was a slave
7. Every person she meets there uses her, manipulates her and talks toxic thoughts into her. Oh, I can just say that I mean that pos Duke ergi
8. Her old slave owner bribes her and retraumatizes her by telling her her child is actually alive
9. Her father who left her alone and to be sold off bribes her
10. The emperor who sexually took advantage of her, used her as an incubator and left her clueless starts berating her for all the things he is complict for because he never said a word about it before, so that she now really has no one to turn to except the person that manipulates her
11. Her child is taken away from her
12. She is publicly shamed for being a slave (not her fault and shouldn't even be a thing) and bringing in a supposedly fake baby (she didn't know) to the emperor
13. Said emperor who caused all of this lets her be sentenced to solitary confinement for life without a single kind word to her and she dies all alone by suicide
I know that rashta became an evil person but I also can't forget why she became like that. In the beginning she was a naive and kind young woman who was just craving love and validation. The court and her fear corrupted her mind until she became what she ended up being. And most of all, rashta used to be a slave.
Literally why the fuck would you make a character who starts out being enslaved, and whose former enslavement has a massive impact on its personality and development go through so many terrible things and then kill themselves????
That's just terrible.
And then, what happens?
Sovieshu gets a little slap on the wrist by getting amnesia and getting rejected by navier over and over again.
Duke ergi sails away into unknown happiness.
HER FUCKING SLAVE OWNER WHO ABUSED HER GETS PITY TREATMENT FROM THE MC.
That's my red line. Navier being kind to lebetti? After rashta died?!?!?!? What the hell is this author on??? Lebetti was a horrible person and if rashta (a slavel didn't get a redemption then why should lebetti (a slave owner) get a redemption?!?!?
This paired with the constant underlying lack of addressing of the elephant in the room, the slavery, is just weird. It gives me the feeling as if the author is saying: "it's OK to have slaves because they become one when they do crimes or if they are the children of criminals. And as the story paints it, if you have bad parents you are also bad. And slaves are evil anyway, like rashta. So actually, slavery is justified"
I'm so angry. Rashta deserved better than this and I'm not going to watch navier being nice to lebetti after all that happened without her ever talking about slavery. And then sovieshu and Duke ergi walk around unscathed after ruining rashtas life.
I have better things to do.
To add on that, it's fucking boring now. Navier has been pregnant forever, heinrey is a boring golden retriever psychopath. Sovieshu is annoying everyone for literally no reason??? Why is he there??? Who fucking cares about him and why is it the same boring shit over and over again!??!
After writing all of this out I really see no reason in continuing this. I appreciate the artists who put effort into drawing this so beautifully and I see their effort and making rashtas story better, but seeing as the source material is what it is, I don't want any more of it.
I was really in the mood for something cute cause i was ovulating so i reread the main story in a day and omg I still love it after so many years. Idk why some people are disliking it and its characters, i think they're both really funny and their dynamic is PEAK. The misunderstandings get resolved pretty quickly and are not baseless either.
I knew this was going to come sooner or later but still I hated it. The author doesn't know what's going to happen next? Well, I have a suggestion.
