I think you're right when you say it's a lie. It's obvious Azuma cares about Wataru. But I don't think Azuma is trying to get him to want to take over the company... I think it's a scheme from both the sister and Azuma to let Wataru (who cares tremendously for his older siblings) be free from the heavy responsibilities his parents gave him and to be free to chose his own future... (okay now that I read it through it doesn't sound as likely as it did in my head. But still...)
