Satoko’s letter was beautiful but also frustrating She pours out all her regrets, yet when it mattered most she still chose duty over Shinpei. He gave her everything even his humanity and she still held back. At this point, I don’t know if Satoko is strong for carrying both love and obligation, or selfish for not fully choosing him. This chapter left me conflicted in the worst/best way.
she admits to being selfish and wants to live her last month in a way she "is proud of even if it means no one is fully happy". in her place i imagine the struggle it must be to fully sever a part of your life you love ( be it her father or shinpei), and theres no point to give yourself to someone else if you deny yourself in the process. So i think the reasoningg is that yes it is selfish but yes shes gonna do it her way and go with no regrets
That’s a really good way to look at it. Satoko’s ‘selfishness’ could be her strength, living in a way that leaves her no regrets. But I keep thinking… if she finds peace that way while Shinpei is left carrying all the pain, can their love really line up? Doesn’t her no-regret ending risk becoming his lifetime of regret?
