oh I've read the novel of this before since it got quite lots of recommendation, to tell the truth I don't like it much because the prince will grow up quite brutal ,cruel and becomes a vindictive and very blood thirsty man. He will become a more intimidating instead of ugly man though.

I know that his strong desire for revenge rooting from the terrible treatment he got since he was young but the way he seeks revenge is so cunning and cruel event towards his own blood. It's a typical trait found in many Chinese novels with royal family internecine conflicts as the main theme, it lacks the lenience and clemency which can be found in other Japanese manga with the similar theme ( like saiunkokumonogatari, jouou no hana or akatsuki no yona...)
However the prince has quite strong libido and very loyal to his uke so their love story is quite appealing.

Considering how they starve and beat a young boy, I think it's understandable that he turns out brutal and vengeful. Shoot, I hope he starves his bitch mother to death, letting her eat ONE worm a day until she dies. And every one of those people who tortured him should be treated in the same way and worse.
I don't forgive child torturers/abusers. Let them rot.

In the novel the prince will undergo a lot of terrible mistreat , from the King-his father, his mother, all of his half brothers , the eunuchs and the servants in the palace as well. The tragedy will play through his whole childhood until he grows up and manages to move out of the palace to evade the non stop attack from his haters.
If you crave for juicy yaoi scene, you have to wait quite long until the prince grows up , furthermore his uke is straight so the prince has to spend time and force to pursuit his love (in fact his uke is a stronger than him, a martial master to boost) :lol .
