How? The maid is protected by her father, and Edith has no allies that she knows of. She doesn't have the power to get rid of Sophia. She is physically incapable of telling anyone about how Edith has suffered. The world won't allow her to reveal the abuse she has endured.

That's true but Sophia told her if she tries something,she will just kill her and fake it as if the Ludwigs have done it. She even strangled her once. And she was always next to her, so she didn't have much chance. Not even talking about the trust issue, the Ludwigs are totally untrustworthy and she has her pride too. Personally, I also think fainting would've been the best option, getting more maids so she doesn't need to be alone with Sophia wasn't a bad idea either but not sufficient enough.
