I somehow had the theory that the story is happening in the 3rd life chance. I mean come on, on chapter 1 we could see that the body is fresh!......did...he like you know...ripped her face and got the skull(there were not a single red blood or is just the art to make it less creppy that he just removed the Fl's skull i the FLESH)...besides he said "last time"
And perhaps the memory on the skull that flashed on the current Fl's mind is the first one where Ml was cold and they weren't husband and wife

Again it's only a theory.
