She most likely thought that it was Meldon since she saw the kiddo from the church that she knows. And since he said “oh he’s a pretty cool guy” she trusted that. And it’s also possible that she thought it was Meldon since he wore a black coat like that in the past chp before.
Though I do think it’s a given to at least be careful if they randomly decided to pull away

they explained in one of the author notes that the artist had left and they introduced the new one, i actually like it more bc they look their age now. before the characters looked 10 and i was shocked to find out the FL was 19
