I got myself a theory...so what if it wasn't just a mere dream and everything DID happened? Ok hear me out. So let's say he did travel back in time but Not his entire being but instead just his mind or soul that came back in time and got in his past self so his og body should be sleeping or in a coma or the time there just STOP. He was determined to change the past And tried to prevent wei yun from dying which HE DID.
So after he got what he wanted, no one died, everyone was happy, it's time for him to return to his og body from the og timeline. It's like a mission that goes "complete this then go back to where you came from" and he returned to his og body, woke up and simply though it was all just a dream...? If you remember when the hulk explains to the avengers that just because they travel back in time and change the past, doesn't mean everything will also change, maybe you can understand my theory better

Dude this is almost like that one horror movie and in the last episode they've killed the killer and thought they can finally rest and get their happy ending but when they take a closer look at the killer's corpse, one of them go "wait didn't the killer have (something)..? I don't see it on the corpse..." Then they realize they've killed the wrong person and the killer is still out there.
