She's a trap. Or possibly a cursed beast that has no sex originally. Or maybe it's just a case of trying to be progressive and inclusive and add in a non-gender conforming/ possible trans character. Though the last is certainly less common than the mysterious trap trope.

That could definitely fit. For many reasons plot wise. But honestly I'm just one of those who waits before I get to invested in a suspicion like this. It can be devastating if you end up proven wrong after all. But yeah when I said some sort of cursed beast, dragon was definitely at the top if the list.
