It isn't easy to know when PPL are being manipulative, I agree with that. But if someone holds you down and force themselves onto you... Exactly. I do think the professor has other intentions. But I don't think it's for something shallow, like manipulating the bottom so he can make him fall in love, or to use to sexually. We know the professor knows blondie's mom, and he also knew about the bottom even before he met him, it's in chapter 5. And it's no coincidence that he chose the college the bottom goes to.
