People nowadays REFUSE the existance of any even remotely negative association with anything non-white. So of course they go ahead and call bad treatment racist, because in their minds there can not be any other option for it. You know, like, dramatics or simply making a character more sad before liberating them? The GOOD STUFF of all stories? The skin colour does not even matter, there is plenty of pale coloured slaves and the stories all turn out more impressive BECAUSE of the slavery dynamics playing into the growth of the characters.
People just refuse to see it as what it is; a story gimmick that's used to elevate the characters the reader shall like, evoke emotions and let the reader get invested.
But instead people choose to use their racism infested minds to make it about something else: their assumptions. And this isn't rare on here, the slacktivism is strong on this front all over the platform.
It's really obnoxious but people on here LOVE throwing that word around. Half of which definitely do NOT know it's meaning and appropriate use.
Who knows, some of these folk would probably call a cop racist for arresting someone with a warrant that simply happens to be a poc, yet all that really matters is said person having done wrong and finally getting to face consequences for their own actions. XD
All in all: Saying/doing anything negative/'negative' towards a poc = Racism
