I get that. But honestly I think it’s a bit more nuanced than that.

There’s a serious possibility that he was actually romantically interested in Annette. Except to him it wasn’t possible he could actually feel that way about her, considering that he was plotting against her family. After he finally followed through with his plan, it’s likely that he wasn’t able to understand his feelings for Annette. Likely produced by guilt which must’ve been incredibly damaging for him because the plan to overthrow the monarchy had always been his goal. If everything he had been working for was only going to cumulate in this pitiful way: him feeling guilty for freeing the citizens, it makes sense as to why he has so much pent up aggression towards Annette. Someone who he believed was somewhat responsible. It also wouldn’t be wrong to say that he also has difficulty separating Annette from her family, which would make his potential feelings of guilt all that much more unbearable. Assuming that his scars are a result of her father, it would make it especially difficult for him to accept his feelings for her. Not only that but he’s likely ashamed of his scars.To be vulnerable in front of your abuser’s daughter who you’re not meant to be interested in is certainly not easy. Even regardless of those circumstances it’s already quite difficult to be vulnerable with someone who you are interested in. He’s technically in love with her even if it has manifested in obsession and possession. So considering that fact he must want her to accept him even after the fact but that doesn’t make sense to him because he’s always wanted the monarchy gone. He’s confused by his feelings towards her and it manifests in possession. His reasoning is likely “I want her here with me, but it can’t be because I love her, it must be because I want her to suffer the way I have”

This isn’t meant to justify his actions but it’s just an explanation.

my comment was exaggerated lmaoo got mad after ml was being a douche to mc after she apologized to him n yeah p much everything u said makes sense id be conflicted asf too if i was in his situation but still his logic abt how mc is connected to everything her father did is still wack like ok i get hes a victim but ru serious but then again i also get that it’s natural to want someone to blame and be mad at but ofc he can’t do that to her dad cuz he’s 6 ft under its js an unfortunate situation for everyone but ig since the story is more focused on mc i feel more inclined to feel bad for mc rather than ml ykwim for me it’s written in a way where i js cant see myself ever liking ml even after knowing what he’s gone thru hater til i die

ah no ml wanted to date mc bc of a bet made with his friends right but of course he later on fell in love w mc but then mc found out it was all for a bet so he got mad n broke up w ml but then after like a day he forgave him bc his sister came n asked mc to “forgive ml for my sake” also the bet started bc of her too, she wanted to find out if mc was gay for her man bc she was self conscious so she basically planted the idea of testing mc into mls brain so that’s why he even accepted the bet if ykwim basically the entire thing is decent up until the end
