I think we all know that Anastacius is being controlled by some manipulative being of a sort. I don’t know what or who is controlling him, but you can see that he has slight empathy at times and such. i’m not saying that I don’t dislike the things he has done; i’m just pointing out that he doesn’t seem to fully be in control of his actions
I think he's controlled by that ancient emperor, known as the best magician, since he had a vision where Lucas told him "useless or trash " or something like that. I remember, Lucas talked about it in another chapter, and Athie was surprised because the emperor was known as the best.
I think the emperor was really not that great of a magician, so he began to use dark magic.
