I’m Chinese and It’s true that Chinese society is treating gay and lesbians poorly.the government is even suing a bl writer for 10 years imprisonments. Everyone is scared. Creators are taking down their work become they are afraid to be the next victim. We really want to change something but sadly China is not a liberal country and we can’t choose our governer...

even assuming this is true, there's no reason to suddenly label all chinese people as homophobic (not saying you're doing that, just referring to how op's tone sounds that way) because like you said China isn't a democracy and there are many people who are opposed to these acts of bigotry but are unable to have a say in the political system

cause he mention china but not chinese and commenting on china government's recent act on LGBT so I assume he/she was complaining about the China government? though not all chinese are homophobic but i do agree that chinese society in general is being harsh towards LGBT community. Despite his emotional word choice I think he does point out the fact and not being racist.

They’re not actually banning gay literature in China. From what I’ve seen Tianyi got sentenced 10 years in prison because of a censorship law stating that any sort of pornagraphy sold for a profit is illegal. People are speculating that the reason why her sentence was so heavy was because itinvolved an lgbt+ couple others are speculating that it was because the manga that she wrote involved a high school student and a teacher and saw that as indecent it also contained some abuse being depicted. A lot of people are outraged though, because people who have committed a lot heavier crimes than she has sometimes get half of the sentence that she got. The law that put her in prison has been put in place since 1998. There has been no law put in place that would make lgbt+ fiction writers get put into prison unless it involves any sexual relations, the same go a straight couple. I do personally believe that the sentence was extremely harsh and she likely got a longer jail sentence than others because it’s bl but from what I can see it’s an isolated incident. I could be wrong though. Still sucks. Not exactly new information though, the human rights abuse and censorship in China is hardly a secret from the international audience, it's even a part of school curricula. "Gay conversion therapy" discrimination for supporting lgbt rights or being lgbt are not viewed as crimes, ditto there is a controlled media which censors anything labelled as "pornography" and restricts independent media. South Korea is hardly the most progressive too, the media may recently have lessened the restrictions on LGB portrayals, but equal rights and a less social conversative attitude to gender and sexual orientation is far off. The person in question produced a book that wasn't your typical "brotherly love, not gay" like most Chinese webtoons, but detailed same-sex scenes between men and women. They independently produced a book, that drew attention due to it's popularity, and because it sold a certain amount, the content creators and distributors were seen as committing a serious offense which can carry a lengthy prison term, even life. Crack downs on LGB portrayals in China are not exactly a new revelation, recently you might have heard of the Weibo scandal. The lack of media representation is only part of the discrimination that LGBT people face there, but there does seem to be growing public discourse about this, even if the environment where conformity and face is all, means that equal rights that are everyday elsewhere may be a way off.

Whoever disliked this while reading a story about gay people should have their shit stomped in. Fuck China and all of their ass-backward human right violations, 90% of the country is just another North Korea that's only seen so much advancement because of inhumane working conditions in their factories full of suicide nets while they brainwash and censor news about the corrupt government for their citizens.

Yea :( I follow a gay couple from China and they got kicked off some live streaming site just for being on it because they're gay. They post on Instagram and YouTube. So far those arn't banned but who knows in the future. If China doesn't change I think the people are really going to have to push for the rights they want
