The story's deeper than depicted in the first few chapters. When the authors said that the two main characters will be together in many stories, they really meant it in a literal sense. The bond between the protags go way way way way back. There was a revolution, some time travelling, reconciliation with friends etc. it's long winded but all intertwined. Tbh this feels like, if I made two original characters and I loved them so much I can't stop creating fics of them in different universes and settings/plots, but everything was intimately connected and not random
