ngl im into this. it reminds me of a movie with messy plots and messy people and it makes it feel more realistic with how jiho is so used to just running away and how he doesn't even know the chaos he left yoojun in. im excited to see where this goes especially with the girl's older brother now in the mix.
i think, if you read the author's other work: Hate Mate, the you will kind of get a feel for the type of story that the author likes to tell and it's really interesting how realistic some aspects can be and how the author explores unlikeable characters

honestly im rooting for the mc regardless of what he chooses like, if he left them, I would've been happy, but since he chose to stay, i'm happy for him if he's happy. Like, I really like him and I like how he's written and I think, regardless of all of the drama and how stupid the MLs are, the author did a good job at writing the MC

dare i say seme of all semes... he's emotionally intelligent, patient, kind, packing, and he's just a cutie patootie who likes to resolve conflicts before they get any bigger
it pains me to see people hate on jiho and not understand his character. like, if you're gonna hate on him at least take the time to understand what kind of character he is and what kind of story this is the author never set this up as a romcom type of love story bc you could always tell that jiho was the type to run away and default to things that will hurt in order to distract himself from his problems. he was able to feel comfortable with yoojoon but the second that was slightly compromised, he chose to ran away in order to preserve the idea/memory of yoojoon as something pure and sweet in his mind. that's why he thought of yoojoon while he and the older brother of the girl were going at it.
jiho was never set up to be a good person. he's complex, hurt, scared, lonely, and imperfect which is what makes him compelling. i've said this before, but i really enjoyed how this author writes imperfect characters and how it makes them feel more like people who make mistakes.
people are hating him because he ran away and wasn't loyal to yoojoon and left yoojoon, but you also have to remember that jiho probably never intends/expects to run into yoojoon again and he probably thinks that yoojoon is over him bc jiho hates himself and can't accept the fact that he's so important/has made such an impact on someone's life that it de-rails them forever. also, even in the way he treated yoojoon in the beginning made it obvious he doesn't expect people to like him for himself. even jiho's dad told him that no one cares if he doesn't do anything because he has a pretty face. growing up with his mom and dad and the environment he did, his low self-esteem and general distaste for life and forming meaningful relationships makes sense, which also enforces why he was so afraid to let yoojoon in.
LOL sorry i went on a long rant. anyways this probably isn't going to be a super fluffy and happy story, so it makes sense as to why people are upset and dropping it, but if you really look at and examine the characters, this gets really interesting because it's not a plot-driven story. it's a character-driven one.
also feel free to add on to this or to talk about your own interpretations of the characters, i'm actually really interested in how other people are perceiving the general turn of this story

Jiho's behavior def makes sense to me because he had always been introduced as a very destructive, impulsive character. He probably also has a very complicated concept of sex so imagine that paired with how lost he feels in general. It just makes sense for him to try and sleep around, so reading the comments shaming him baffled me. In fact, it says he's only slept with the girl's brother so far, and the other guy was just an attempt, so it must've been a recent impulse. I feel he just has no idea what he wants in life, but the only thing he's sure about is how much he loves Yoojoon. I think this story is great and people just lack reading comprehension, bcos it was never marketed to be a cute romance. I've read the author's other works and I'm sure she knows what she's doing!! She definitely focuses on character-driven stories, like you said, and her separating Yoojoon and Jiho is trying to establish these two as their own characters. Even while together, they weren't healthy. It's a long progression, but that's how development works!
RIGHT i feel like, along with a lack of reading comprehension, the increase in purity culture also plays a huge role in people's perceptions of these types of stories. they believe that the main characters should stay virgins and single up until they meet their one true love and then once they do, those two should never split up ever again. i also feel like people are especially unforgiving to characters who bottom because they're put in the "submissive" role and should only save themselves for their top. like. What. they refuse to read what's right in front of them and instead choose to ignore what the story is telling them about these characters and start making up their own conclusions.
yoojoon and jiho are like a loosely tied knot. they're intertwined, but at this point in the story, it's not enough to keep them together. even if they did end up together in high school, they were bound to fall apart sooner or later because they both still have so much growing to do. yoojoon knew what he wanted, but would still put jiho above himself and jiho was still severely emotionally not ready to enter a happy and long-term relationship without it being self-destructive. the beauty in this story is how the characters grow at different points in their lives and how it affects how they see and approach the world and each other as they meet over and over again.
Absolutely!! It’s never this much outrage when the top sleeps around which is SO RAMPANT in BL stories. Some of the comments seriously floored me bcos it’s like they have no idea how horrible it is what they just said - considering Jiho is fictional, imagine saying something like that to someone who really is a victim of abuse. It’s so harmful. The jump to immediately call this story trash and drop it after just one escalation to an intimate scene with someone other than Yoojoon is insane. It was painted out clear as day that Jiho did not enjoy one second of it, and that look of regret right after!! :(
Obviously I can’t predict what the author plans to do with this new relationship, but the comments claiming they “know how this goes” and that’ll it’ll be a love triangle so they’ll drop it doesn’t make sense with any of these characters either. Jiho is NOT INTO HIM and he mentions Yoojoon during sex too. If anything, I think it’ll be more of an exploration of Jiho’s character and the amount of insecurity, self-hatred, etc he holds. It does not necessarily mean these two are going to be played out as a side romance. It’s just not the vibes I’m getting at all, because at this point Jiho is very certain of his love for Yoojoon and he even quotes it before he left him. There’s just not going to be anyone else. People really need to exercise some patience bcos the story just started…

I think the root of the audience’s displeasure is not because the bottom stuck in self pity and in his inferiority complex had a one night stand (regretfully) with some other douche bag so that he can later “evolve” and realise his worth and all the good things that he’s worthy of XD Feels like deja-vu.
The main issue is that this type of plot has been done ad nauseam actually even by the same author with Hate Mate in a way.
I think people are just fed up with this time skip trope sleeping around then OH! i finally figured out what I wanna do in life and double OH here comes my first love back into my life let’s all fix it together yeah dude let’s go!!!
What u think it’s such a great plot in reality it’s something a teenage girl is used to reading and easily predictable. It’s a melodrama. The typical Kdrama melodrama whereas the readers throught it would have gone a different route.
It’s up to the reader to judge based on their singular taste. Reck hasn’t had any impactful story breaking out because she always gravitates around the same themes to the point one would think that maybe she too is always in search of something in her life and being displeased with herself.
I'm not hating jiho, but I still dislike him or where the plot goes at some point. I can understand his personal problems, but I disagree with you in some aspects:
1. Their relationship weren't slightly compromised, everything between them was fine. Jiho just felt inferior seeing yoojoon in a normal loving family. It made him feel lonely, outcast, and the difference between them.
2. "jiho hates himself and can't accept the fact that he's so important/has made such an impact on someone's life that it de-rails them forever." - I don't think jihoo couldn't accept it. He accepted it at the day they first kissed.
3. " a lack of reading comprehension" - just because people dislike some character actions it doesn't mean they lacking reading comprehension. You being rude. I understand where his actions goes from, yet I can still dislike it.
4. "i also feel like people are especially unforgiving to characters who bottom" - no, I thinking the same way regardless of characters position in sex scenes.
What I dislike:
1. Jiho met the only person who was completely kind, sincere, and harmless to him, who loved him without a doubt, Jiho knew all of this and decided to hurt this person the brutal way because he knew he could, and he knew he will hurt yoojoon. I can understand his personal problems and complexes, but this decision irks me a little.
2. My prediction for the future chapters. I think yoojoon will be the one who will chase Jiho (again), and just thinking about it, I hate it. Jiho should do a first step and he should apologise. But right now the only thing I can imagine for such plot and type of characters is Yoojoon reaches to Jiho, Yoojoon trying to make up with Jiho and Yoojoon wants to start again.
All initiative from yoojoon.
I'm not sure he even would criticise Jiho a little for dumping him such way.
