When I first read this part my initial reaction is why did he come back? I don't think I'll ever love my country enough to do all of these when simpler jobs that makes decent money exist.
We've all seen Ian and Jo act domestic for a short period of time, but people don't just get better from ignoring or trying to forget their past. It's bound to resurface, and Ian will never be able to live past that. And that's something many of us refuse to acknowledge.
I honestly don't hate Jo and Ian's relationship. But we all know damn well how they're not good for each other—at best it's only good for Ian. At one point the other one will be exhausted trying to accommodate and "heal" the other.
