I just wanna know why the real Hikaru went there and how he got himself killed. Can somebody kindly spoil me?

his family had a tradition, before him it was his dad who went to the mountains to fulfill it but since his dad died it was now hikarus turn. the legend goes if you find someone you want to marry you gotta go up to the mountains and perform a ritual to keep them safe, if you don’t the snatcher will steal your lover away from you.
hikaru was going up to the mountain to perform said ritual, there was a curvy tree that distracted him, it made him lose his footing which made him fall. impact basically made him unable to move and slowly died off.

That's my guess too .. at first. But then I became doubtful when I searched abt the tree and found out it looked like a sexy woman's body. One of the speech bubbles said 'Hot dayuum!" Or "That's a sexy lookin tree' (not sure if that's Hikaru's inner monologue or reaction) so I'm not so sure after that if Hikaru is gay because a sort of woman's body affected him. Tho I might just be overthinking this I haven't watched it yet or read this because I don't do well with horror but I'm very curious abt the plot and how this ends

I do understand!! I get your confusion-but I’ve read all of the manga, there wasn’t any girl he was into or any girl character like that at all! I’m pretty sure he liked both (girls AND boys, he doesn’t need to be gay or straight) but especially yoshiki, he’s pretty bushy around him in the flashbacks and his last thought before he died was about him not wanting yoshiki to be lonely. there’s also a chapter where hikaru says “I didn’t get to tell him I like-“ very cut up. so it’s very implied it was yoshiki, i hope that helps!!!

Oh, you're right! I didn't think of that right away! Your explanation is a big help. You cleared a big chunk of my confusion with those details.
Thank you for taking the time to reply! From the tone of your replies, you seem like a real gentle and patient person. Unlike other people here who give replies sarcastically just because. I really appreciate you ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶

of course! you were just asking a simple question out of curiosity, no worries!! also I read your other comment where you said you haven’t read this yet because you’re not good with horror. you should totally give this a try!! even though it’s labeled as horror it’s definitely not scary or gruesome in anyway I promise. it’s has a lot of cute moments but def some sad ones surrounding grief and fear. no scary characters or nightmare giving scenes. If you have any questions on anything I wouldn’t mind answering, like if there was anything specific I’m horror manga you’re not good with. I could tell you if there’s anything like that in it, with no spoilers if you’d like.

I thought the ritual and the saying were two different things, the ritual is done every 5 years to keep the snatcher on the mountain and appeased in a way and since hikaru’s dad died when he was younger wouldnt it be logical to assume it was time for it to be done again? The saying in their family is just to quickly marry your crush(lover) otherwise the snatcher will come after them but if theyre apart of your family they cant since they made a promise or whatever.

I’ve always assumed it was connected, the ritual is done by hikarus family to keep the snatcher sealed away on the mountain (supposedly since stuff is still coming out about “the snatcher” and everything, this might change once we know more)
I always thought since it’s their “responsibility” to do so,it reflects back onto them, if the snatcher were sealed up like claimed why would it matter if they didn’t marry their lover quickly? the snatcher couldn’t steal them away if they couldn’t come down to the village in the first place.
if the ritual wasn’t done, the snatcher would be free and would follow the saying and snatch away the unmarried lover. doing the ritual = saving your lover
since it’s the idohs responsibility to do the ritual (involving the snatcher) and the idohs who need to marry up the person they like quickly or the snatcher will take them away. (idohs and the snatcher mention again in correlation to eachother) I’ve always thought they went hand in hand.
of course this is just my interpretation of it and what I think makes the most sense! feel free to think differently.

it’s in the middle ish where hikaru is on the ground before he dies.
click this and it’ll bring you to it! It's “ch 1” but it’s in the middle instead of the beginning so I thought id be easier to just give you a link.

That's so nice of youuu but I think I also can't take sad things right now so I'm letting this marinate then maybe come back when it's done and read this in one sitting. I'll come back here and I hope your offer still stands by then. But if not that's okay too, you've humored me enough already (▰˘◡˘▰)
Was that guy with the hoodie the same person who drawed/tied with JK?
