I think what many people don't realize is that abusive parents are just like abusive partners and the victims feel unable to let them go even if it's better for their life and health. MC is grabbing with all his might the possibility of having a good relationship with his dad not because it is logical, but, because even if it's childish, a part of him yearns for a family with his dad.
This story besides being a romance is a story about found family forged by choice and will, but as any good story the realization is not going to be automatic. Sihwa needs to come to terms that mc is his own "human" and as any of us he has desires, dreams and goals that are different even if their feelings for each other are the same. MC has to let people in his heart and let himself be vulnerable even if people (dad) of his past let him down he needs to show himself bare, because in the long run keeping people away it's going to hurt him worse, also stop assuming everyone's feelings.
