The explanation behind the story is indeed a bit off and there is a strong plot armor for MC but it’s fun story otherwise, I would say give it a chance to o maybe ch 10 and if you don’t likening it simply might not be suitable for you

-hmm in the official ver. it said he needed VR access, so im guesing it was a way for the people who didnt "awaken" to still play the game since the MC awakened years later.
-and i think the players are calling it an update since thats what those system pop-ups calls them. no one actually discovers/finds these things, they just get notified through the game system.

the story is very fun, i forgot when i started cheering for the MC but lol, he's unintentionally funny and just aurafarming most of the time im afraid

I recommend you continue with the story! especially if you only read the first chapter. it def starts off a little confusing so let me clear up some from what I remember!

The timeline is basically,
-approx. 12 years ago the game itself was just a normal VR game! go in the capsule to play, make a character, level up said character with quests, log out and continue RL
-MC started playing when he was in middle school, made his super cringelord character and played enough to get his character to lvl 55 (low) when...
-MC's dad's company goes bankrupt/family goes into debt and they have to sell off a lot of their things, including his VR capsule
-flash forward an unspecified amount of years (seems like only a couple years prior to start of story), MC is an adult, the game's CEO goes missing, and suddenly the world that exists in the game basically collides with the real world, monsters turn up, NPCs and locations from the game appears, players awaken, yada yada

Now it seems like not all players awakened at once, but whenever a player did they completely assimilated with their character! they appear to have the same personality/look wise, but they've suddenly gained mana/skills/levels.

The difference seems to be how our MC has awakened which is several years after the worlds merging and also in a super weird way. instead of assimilating with his character it's almost like he was possessed by his character. it's like they're two consciousness in the same body, but his character is in the driver's seat! which obviously is gonna cause a lot of opportunity for hilarity because his character is a the ultimate chuunibyou fantasy

As for addressing the "update vs findings" complaint,
although it is, for all intents and purposes, their real life now, the players are still very much operating using a lot of game rules. they still have a system, they still gain experience, they still get quests. so for them the terminology of "update" is still relevant. (trying to keep this as spoiler free as possible but even though the game CEO disappeared, the employees of the company are still around and they do a lot of the monitoring)

I just really love this manwha a lot lmao MC and MC's character just have the funniest dynamic

but I understand completely why you were so thrown by ch1, I reread it to make sure I wasn't missing anything and the artist def... jumped around a lot with the exposition/world building..
