context is everything though. Have you even seen the ending? If you have then you’d understand the reason people are upset is due to the violent abrupt ending with no answers. Even the author knows they rushed it and they’re planning to comeback and fix it.

The readers are upset over how abruptly violent the blondie was towards him. They are not upset because the brunette chose not to be with him. They hate how violent the author made the blonde guy towards the brunette, he didn’t have to almost beat him to death.
They’re only surprised the brunette chose to not be with him because usually the authors throw common sense away and put them together. But it’s not a surprise in a hate kind of way, it’s in a good way because the brunette deserves happiness and the blondie dude clearly won’t be giving him that anymore.

It's somewhat confirmed that the author will make a spin-off, or as you may call it "side-stories" of this series after her 2nd work concludes. Expect the side stories to come either this year or the next.

In my opinion, her art regressed in her 2nd work, but that's to be expected after years of hiatus. Nonetheless, I'm really excited for the side stories even if they're short. This has been my Top 1 BL of all time

Believe it or not the story just ended at ch 58 and it seems like the entire manipulation thing was just forgiven by the mc right away
so disappointing, it's so out of character of mc to just forgive him right away plus mc don't even have the slightest feelings to his brother
