So happy! Just found volume 8 at my bookstore! Unfortunately, Sublime subscribes to the invisible naughty bits religion

Weird as I am by nature, I wanted so badly the 8th volume to see the all 'rapey' part with Sudou and Aki, but- just as you said- all the spicy human parts were censored. I remember when a girl here posted the link to a facebook group which translated that part in Spanish. I remember that I could see everything. Did that people draw all the censored parts? I remember pretty well one of the ladies in that group who were making fun about Sudou an his small private part. She wrote something like this: " That 'thing' will only tickle Aki, he's used to something bigger." (⊙…⊙ )( ̄∇ ̄")

Well, the white area in the image is not bad for size ... they must have drawn a bit in ... there is also more lovin' with Asami and Aki in the apartment right before the thugs break in ... but Sublime did a nice job on the volume and the translation is better (not dissing the scanlation group ... but the dialogue is smoother)

You know, I'm really looking forward to the rerelease/retranslation of volume 1 - 7. The scanlation in volume 1 and 2 was just a little rough around the edges at times (and like you, not dissing, loooove all the great work the different groups did over the years :) ), so it will be interesting to see a different translation. There have been so many heated discussions here over the years over a certain phrase or even a single word. ;) It will be fun to have a new "source" of translation, so to speak, and therefore (in a way) a new interpretation.
Speaking of which, is the start of rerelase in May still on? Do we have an actual date yet? I'm already sharpening my credit card. ;)

That's strange, I thought Sublime was going to retranslate them (English) and then rerelease the volumes one after another, every other month, starting in May (print and digital)? At least, that's what the press release said. *scratches head*
P.S.: Always nice to have a "friendly, manga-fanatic bookstore jerk", tehe.

Couple of things:
On the missing man bits, there's a letter from sensei in this volume about increased pressure to sensor erotic material in Japan. She's not happy about it. She feels our pain. And yes, some scanlator's redraw the missing bits. Someone was recruiting on Tumblr the other day, so if you're handy with a pen, the world needs you.
I agree about the translation. The dialogue is more natural. I have one big problem with it, though. In the scene where Sudou has Aki tied up in the warehouse and Aki thinks about what he means to Asami, in the scanlation, he has this big revelation where he finally realizes what he means to Asami, that he is important as a part of Asami's private life and so does not need to try to be useful to him in the other parts of his life.
That has always struck me as the turning point for his character arc, and it carried through to when they are back in the penthouse and Aki climbs into Asami's lap and basically claims him and vows to protect him.
But the new translation takes that revelation away. Instead, he's now thinking the same old, same old stuff like "I don't know what Asami thinks" and "Maybe he doesn't really give a damn."
Then back at the penthouse, that scene is different, too. He's questioning everything again. The added pages where Asami "inspects" him to make sure Sudou didn't rape him don't help. This kind of debases Aki again, where in the old version, he was the one initiating intimacy, taking control for once.
I suspect sensei was under pressure to add sexy scenes to what would have been a sex-free volume, otherwise. But this just kind of wrecks what was a powerful moment for Aki. Maybe she has plans to rebuild this part of his character arc in a different way in the upcoming chapters, what with him training with Hot Monk and hopefully giving him an opportunity to save Asami.
If not...well, I've toyed with the idea of buying extra copies, keeping one pristine and taking the other one and gluing in the translation I like over the ones I don’t. Maybe I'll do that and just cut out those new sexy scenes. Heh.
But otherwise, it's a beautiful new volume and I'm especially happy to have the birthday short included. It's perfect.

First of all, thank you, eworth, for taking the time to point out all these differences, I really appreciate it! :)
Second, OH DEAR! :( I find that very, very disappointing, depressing and frustrating. I feel the same way as you do about Akihito's epiphany in terms of his feelings for Asami in that volume. That was one of THE strongest moments in all 8 volumes (and also one of my favourite moments of character development). And to take that all away? Wow, that is really, really bothering me. And what was the whole point of the whole kidnapping and confrontation with Sudou if not this? Akihito's lightbulp in terms of Asami's feelings for him? Without that, the kidnapping is just a bit of angst, followed by AxA sex.
I think I will go the same route as you are planning to, but digitally. I was going to order digitally anyway and I have more than enough software to edit and rearange PDF files the way I want to, including the context. So I'm going to "built" my own version, using the scanlation version where I'm not happy with the Sublime one and then print it out and bind it. Hey presto. :)
Again, thank you so much for posting this, eworth, because I had reeeeally high expectations in terms of the retranslation and will have to lower them... :/
Oh, and one thing: I remembered you said this earlier and mentioned this again just now, about sensei's note in terms of pressure on mangaka regarding genitalia. What I am wondering is: Why aren't they allowed to be more lenient and show more in the DIGITAL edition? I mean, I can understand why with the printed version. Kid walks into shop, grabs a copy, flicks through it, BOOM!, Asami's dick, kid spoiled for life. ;) But with the digital copy? I mean, you have to buy it online and to do so you need to have a credit card (aka be an adult). So wouldn't that automatically exclude minors = make it possible to show genitalia? Or am I completely missing something here? Maybye it's just the law and the medium doesn't matter, I don't know.

OOOOH my god... LMAO! I'm so sorry, tokodoki. That was a "Freudian slip", ey? I don't know what's wrong with me this week, honestly. Our instant water heater wasn't working properly, so I called our installer and left a message. As I was giving him our phone number... I got stuck in the middle. I couldn't remember our number. I actually had to call him again and leave another message with the full number. He was still in stitches when he called back, tehe.

'Children' is the main factor that made me decide for the digital copy. I don't want my son to discover his mommy's secret hobbies. And, yes, BOOM forever if a child finds out Asami's penis dimensions! Ruined for life... (≧∀≦) just kidding. If you know how to edit (or better redraw) some pages, can I ask you if it's possible to fix the 'invisible' parts? ( ̄∇ ̄") I'm like a child, you know.

Thank you so much for this clarification, seriously. Cause it went past me also, the change in Aki's inner monologue. And then the addition of Asami's "inspection" scene in the digital version. It did seem offputting for the dialogue at hand, and an awkward interruption in an otherwise sweet moment where Aki's feelings were coming full circle, along with Asami's. All because of publisher pressure. Such a shame. :(

Our local chain bookstore only recently added a small number of yaoi titles to its manga section, all wrapped in plastic but shelved within the general manga. This is a fairly conservative town, so I've been watching to see if anyone was buying them--or waiting for an outraged citizen to buy one by accident, find out what it is and call down hellfire on the store. So far, that hasn't happened. But what has happened is that someone unwrapped every volume of Love Stage. Heh.

Well, overall, I do think the translation is better. The old June translations sometimes sounded like they had been done by someone's eighty-year-old spinster auntie. I am interested enough to see how much Sublime changes the translation in the reprints.
On showing genitalia in the digital edition, I'm not sure. I'm guessing that somewhere out there, sensei's original drawings exist and I'm also guessing, they are anatomically correct, that the critical equipment was blanked out in the publication process. Then those files are the ones that foreign publishers buy/license from the original publisher. Putting the genitalia back in would be expensive. Creating new files from sensei's originals would be more expensive. Publishing runs on a very slim profit margin as it is, so I'm guessing that's the primary reason.

It's a combination of the translation (or new wording?) and the new scenes that just takes the whole revelation away. But again, I'm hopeful that we'll get a new revelation in the current arc.
Because the way it was, with Aki understanding his role and asserting his place in Asami's life, it felt to me like a complete story. Maybe she changed it so there was still some emotional stuff left to drive the story?
I wish I had the original chapter in Japanese. I have the Japanese version of volume 8 and from what I can gather using Google translate, the Sublime translation is correct. But I'd like to know if the text was changed by sensei herself from the original chapter. Because that one significant page has been almost completely redrawn. Both top and bottom illustrations are new and the center illustration has the text on a blank background, so it could easily be changed. Anyone know where you can find raws after all this time?

Yes, they corrected that in the digital version. And Jennifer LeBlanc from Sublime said they would also fix it when it goes for reprinting, but that they could do nothing about the cocpies already printed. And apparently, the word "detective" is used a second time (p. 73?), not sure the digital version has corrected that yet.

Completely agree with you about Akihito's revelation and understanding at last of his role in Asam's life as well as the scene where he crawls onto his lap and claims Asami as his own and making it very clear that he intends to watch over Asami. That is an empowered, determined, even confident Akihito and I liked that character development tremendously. I also thought it tied in nicely with the current "Hot Monk training center in the mountains, where you learn crazy Ninja skills" thingie. :)
Regarding the RAWs: Are you in any of the groups (scanlation group. summary group)? I mean, they should still have the raws from when they did the scanlaton for the original chapter, right? So you could just ask them.
Regarding new revelation the current arc: Keeping my fingers crossed. Alas, we shall see. As the saying goes: IN SENSEI WE TRUST. :)

Quote: "I'm not sure. I'm guessing that somewhere out there, sensei's original drawings exist and I'm also guessing, they are anatomically correct" --- Oh, the agony, Asami's dick, so close yet just out of reach! ^^
You are right of course about the cost aspect, I hadn't thought about that. Such a shame. I can only imagine how much that kind of censorship has to suck for all the artists.

Ah, no, sorry, I was just thinking of building myself a version where I edit the speaking parts. So I plan to take the good quality of the Sublime version, but digitally edit and replace what is said in the bubbles with the scanlation version, where I prefer it.
I'm completely hopeless when it comes to drawing. Trust me, Lady, you would NOT want me to start drawing dicks in with my skill sets, lol! That would look like your son actually HAD found mommy's secret Yaoi stash and started drawing dicks instad of cute little dogs. ^^ I mean I HAVE fixed some other stuff (Haru wo D.) in the past for my personal enjoyment (okay, that didn't come out right!), but there the genitalia weren't completely whiped out. They just had the little "bar of shame" for example, and that could very easily be fixed and you would never even notice afterwards (hurrah, dicks repaired!). I also made myself an unpixled edit of the Zaria mangas once, that turned out nice, too. But I need to have at least some part of it that I can work with to "reconstruct" the rest, if it's like those "lightsaber dicks" then I have to give up, because me? No Michelangelo! ;)

Ah, so no kiddie trauma based on Big Asami's Little Asami! ;) Good to know.

Regarding the last part: That was probably Tokidoki's "friendly, manga-fanatic bookstore clerk", tehe.

That's ok. Now that I think about the facebook group which did the scanlation of Sudou and Aki part in Spanish, I have to admit that they redrew those parts pretty well (I thought it was the original stuff) except for Sudou's private part. They redrew it pretty small (on purpose, I guess) for the fun of people. Oo

Maybe she realized she blew her emotional wad there and decided to save it up for a more dramatic moment--like if the cover of volume eight is a preview, that would be the moment to redo the whole "I will protect him! I won't let anyone lay their hands on him!" thing, and have Aki step into his rightful role and realization while he's with Asami, instead of just thinking about him.
The one thing I do like in this new version is the line that triggers Aki to think back on Asami saving him used to read "Are you really so worthy of that?" Now it reads "Do you really have that kind of value?" which is a nice little echo of Asami's line waaaaay back in volume 3 "Maybe you don't have that kind of value."
So even though it throws Aki back to his old "What does Asami really think of me?" crap, it kind of resets the emotional stakes for the reader by reminding us of where this all started.
Then again, I could be overanalyzing this to death.

Okay, so there's another subtle little change in chapter 48, on page 7 where Sudou has the knife at the back of Aki's neck. In the old version, Sudou says "I didn't do it so he (Asami) would turn his gaze towards me. I never expected to fall in love with him this much." And a shocked Aki thinks "Love..."
New version, Sudou thinks "I'm not interested in having him look at me that way. Never have been. But there's no way in hell I'm letting him fall in love with someone else." And then Aki thinks "Love?" this time with a question mark.
So he has a little tiny moment there but the thought isn't completed because then there's the catfight with Sudou where they mostly just shout insults at each other.
But when they get home, the text is different again, particularly Aki's interior thoughts just before he kisses Asami. Old version: "I will become his eyes and watch his back for his enemies. I don't want anyone to lay their hands on him."
New version: "I'm the only one who can desire that. I'm the only one that gets to see the real Asami." Which is nice but it's not...empowering, like it was before. It's not Aki claiming a more equal status in the relationship.
So then even though Aki initiated the kiss, the new sex scene has Asami quickly taking control and putting Aki right back in the subordinate position, examining him for signs of sexual assault, reminding us of Aki's victim status. Asami, presumably, didn't see Aki fighting Sudou like we did, so he doesn't have that image of kickass, go-down-fighting Aki and his reaction here kind of undercuts that moment.
It really looks like this was all deliberately changed and I hope it was because there's a bigger, better revelation moment coming.

That's disappointing, really hope you are right about change being deliberate or I'm planning to drop this manga for good this time.

If she doesn't make a bigger more dramatic character development for Akihito in this arc I plan to take a long break and wait until the end of this manga to read it. My reading preferences changed in time and I simply don't enjoy to read Finder like I used to anymore. Quite saddening because it feels like I'm saying farewell to an old friend.

Yes, slow pace is literally killing me, especially every time I read Junjou Romantica it feels like I aged 10 years more. ( ̄∇ ̄")
But even in Junjou Romantica which is 10 times more frustrating than Finder, Misaki had a huge character development which got me hopeful for Finder too...
I should know better#-.-)

Not at all, I also think Finder would be a good seinen manga. (●'◡'●)

Just got a sneak peek - Aki is left in the cold when Asami finds a new boy ... http://www.mangago.zone/home/photo/832326/
Maybe Aki will hook up with Hot Monk?
Joking

Joke aside: Hot Monk has... *coughs* potential. Who knows, maybe she can hook him up with Fei Long. ^^ I for one would like to see what's under the monk outfit. Yeah, I'm a pevert like that.

Amen to all of that. And yeah, that volume 8 cover... I'm literally itching to see that scene play out.

Fei group hug! :)

Aww, man... :( You know, I have absolute zero idea how this works in the mangaka world. But I would be interested to know how free they are in their creative process. And I don't just mean the art work, but the plot. So: How much of the plot is the mangaka's own creative process and hasn't bee influenced by anyone? And how much of it is the influence of the publisher, the editor etc.? It has been mentioned here quite a few times that sensei originally had different ideas in terms of the storyline and the characterline, that she had intended to go this way and another, but that it was decided (by whom? her? her publisher? both?) to take a different route in the end.
So in this particular case I'm wondering: Was it just her create decision which she was 100 % free to make? Or was she convinced/talked into/pressured, even, to backtrack Akihito's Lightbulb (his aha-moment with regards to his place in Asami's life and in his heart)?
What is also surprising about this is, that in the Asami novel, the author (based on sensei's input) was rather open and revealing in terms of Asami's feeling towards Akihito in the last chapter. Asami's feelings there were quite enlightening. That was as much of a "I'm in love with Akhito" as we're probably going to get any time soon (or ever). So it's interesting, that on the one hand, the novel takes two steps forwards in the feelings/emotions department (yeah, yeah, I know it's just the novel, not the manga...), but then then rerelease of the manga backtracks in Akihito's case.
It's almost as if the original version... was considered a mistake. Something she (or her publisher?) regreted putting in there. And that now they are maybe trying to "rewrite Finder history", so to speak. *sigh*
PS - thanks again for the detailed comparison, eworth! :)

I think the whole series has been a bit off the cuff for sensei, because the original story was only chapter one - a one shot, that became super popular. Sensei has admitted that had she known it would turn out this way, that the original chapter would have been different, so I think she is swayed by outside opinion and welcomes some outside input. But that could just be rumour ...
The novels - while approved by sensei, were not written by her, so they are almost a kind of fan fiction - I think.

"cough" protection.

I recently learned that Kishimoto was forced into creating Sasuke because editor thought Naruto needed a rival character. That's the amount of power editors have over mangaka.

It seems I'm the only one who prefer the new version...
In the scene of warehouse, does Akihito think "I don't know what he thinks of me" in English copy? French has same translation but Japanese is different. There is no indicative word what he thinks "of what" as Japanese usually do, so in my opinion from following monologue it's more natural he wonders what Asami thinks about his intrusion into Asami's affair, not of him.
A person of Asami's private life... how can he live contented to confine himself within such a small cage? And I highly doubt he can throw his pride as a journalist away for protect Asami. In old version he has too tamed, like Asami's subordinate, drawn too much into Asami's darkness, and his wild free spirit has all gone. I'm relieved Akihito's protection things words replaced with another. I don't want him to be a biased journalist!
But I understand many people frustrated with the changes. Maybe sensei prepares the ways Akihito protecting Asami, in more suitable methods for him :)

LOL. Gives gift gift wrapping new meaning. hahahahah my poor mind. It's all J 's fault.

J is a very bad influence on everyone ... as are a few others ... LOL.
But I think a lot of people have naughty thoughts ... see - something to carry in your purse and make guys reeaaallly uncomfortable https://www.etsy.com/market/penis_cozy

Woah! Now, that IS what I would call power! I had no idea they could be that influential. I mean, trying to persuade a mangaka is one thing, but that almost sounds like it went against the explicit wishes of the mangaka. Thanks for sharing, that was very enlightening, anon.

Okay, how does that even work? Is SHE sitting in the living room in the evening, knitting little penis cozies while HE just tries to ignore what she is doing and watches the footie? ^^

Keep going, tokidoki, you have nearly convinced me to get both. :)

I leave you alone for 1 day and this is where the conversation has ended up!!! *shakes head* You are all off to the naughty step, just so you know.

Bad photo (just a quick snap ...) to show what is missing from the scanlated edition http://www.mangago.zone/home/photo/1452054/

I leave for a week and somehow my innocent initial *still* gets blamed for stuff.
Btw, I had some time to kill, so I can tell you one major book seller in Orlando FL does not stock Finder, nor any manga that's remotely BL.

There are some new paintings in the volume 8, Akihito also realizes why Sudoh wants to getting into his body. The answer is that Sudoh wants Asami.

Now that one I did see! Sudoh would have been envious.

*snort* Don't hold back on our behalf, sister, just "Let it goooo, let it goooo, can't hold it back anymoooooooore...." ;)

Ah, so we have transgressed from "Jedi light saber" penis to "Phantom (NOT of the Opera) no longer even there, but might be under Harry Potter's Invisibility Cloak" penis. Interesting. Reminds me a bit of the Fujimi Orchestra anima in *that* scene, where you just see the empty hand move, but nothing in it. I still find that completely hilarious. :D The anime is worth watching just for that.

That reminds me of a French colleague I had years ago. Gorgeous girl, natural blonde, absolute stunner. We went to a bar with a bunch of project members and decided to smoke some Cuban cigars for fun. She started moistening the tip of her cigar, moving it in and out of her mouth and the movement was, well, I think you get the idea. ;) I swear within 60s all the guys in the group excused themselves and rushed to the men's room. It was brilliant! ^^

Anemia is lack of Iron in the blood, but cerebral anemia is "Cerebral Anemia. ... Did you mean 10,000?
In the page you linked me the price is written in yen. I think few persons will pay 10,000 dollars for a doll. Oo
