Before reading, can someone tell me how Guide and Esper work, please :((((
I might suck at explaining this, but I'll try my best. I'm pretty new to the Guide and Esper thing as well, but base on everything that I've read so far . . .
Espers are like superheroes. They are born with magical powers and are tasked to maintain peace in the city they are in by fighting baddies and villains here and there.
Guides on the other hand, are like medics or healers, but only for a certain type of Esper. The compatibility rate of a Guide and an Esper depends solely on the Esper's ranking. If an Esper is ranked as an S Class, they also need a Guide that's the same or similar to their rank in order for them to heal properly.
That's the only difference it makes with a superhero is that an Esper always needs a Guide for them to stay sane, maintain their superpowers, and heal quickly. If they don't have a guide, they have to heal solely on their own and might go to the process of slowly losing their sanity.

I forgot to add this a while ago, but I advice also that you be extra cautious and careful in reading the Esper and Guide tropes in BL's because most of the ones I've read have r@p3 in them and so do the vast majority. If you are not comfortable with the romance starting in r@p3, please check the descriptions of the BL book first or the comments.
