The actions of the ml make no sense to me. He was clearly not interested, first he has this whole „she’s too good for me“ spiel going, then he feels sympathy for her because of the unrequited live situation with this „lilli“ person and now he randomly goes „I don’t think I can stop myself“ with her??? Helloooooo? Make it make sense.
