I understand people couldn't feel the love between them. But, realistically speaking, he's an abandoned child and grew without receiving love aside sympathy from asuka and hostility from nobility. So, it's expected that he isn't like the male lead out there but he's straightforward. The asking for blessing part shows his sincerity that we can't capture from the previous chapters. Give him some slack, he's still learning to be human and interacting as best as he could.
Additionally, he just knew violence so he expresses his love in a violent way. You know, when you really love someone, you'll try to forget the past scenarios, the bad times you had with your lover. Our FL here is a soldier, so she knew how to decipher his violent ways of showing love.
