Omg, that’s heartbreaking to hear. If your parents are strict in any abusive way. It’s F-ed up. My parents were very traditional too. I don’t know why but I’ve always acted like myself. Even if my parents yelled or threaten me. They’ve never hit me. They were taught homophobic belief that were not their own. After we immigrated to the US. They had taught me a lot of homophobic thoughts unintentionally. But when I met my first gay friend. I just told my parents that he wasn’t at all like they said. Eventually I brought gay friends home. Just as friends without saying they are gay. My parents just accepted them. After they found out these friends were gay my parents didn’t think anything of it. You have to live you authentic life. You fear of how your parents react might be bigger than you’re allowing it to happen. Parents aren’t these smart people we allow them to be. Some of them are just ignorant because they were not expose to anything else. I don’t believe I’m enabling parents to stay ignorant just because they are mom and dad. Their jobs are to love and support you regardless. They decide to give birth to you. You didn’t ask to be born whatever way you are. It’s not something you asked for or had a decision in. If any parent cannot love and support their child. Then they are just horrible beings and not just horrible parents. I mean, if they treat you worst than a stranger or their enemies.It is completely fcked up.
I can’t image if you’re 27 and still can’t live your authentic life. You have 50-70 years of life to live. How can you go through this many decades if you’re already dealing with such a hard time already. Time is the only real valuable thing we have in our lives. It is limited. Don’t squander it in regret or unhappiness just please your parents. When they are gone who going to happy that you’re alone? Or with someone you don’t really want to be with if your thinking of entering into a hetero marriage to appease your parents.
