I don't know whether to give it a one star or a five star.
On one hand, there wasn't a good ending. At all.
And on the other hand, this story just does an amazing job of drawing you in by giving you everyone's thoughts and points of view.
This story made me cry SO MUCH. Just because I personally know what of feels like to have the whole world against you, to be stuck in misery and helpless to get out, and then to feel so drained with no will to go on.
Time, therapy, and surrounding myself with good people did wonders on my depression. Now I just have the typical ADHD/anxiety LOL
I thought this was going to be your typical story of she dies and has regrets and gets to wind back time. Or she's reincarnated from another world.
Now I'm thinking damn. I actually want another story that follows this one where he gets another chance to try to make her so happy, but she just dies hating him anyway LOL
And then I want another story after that where she comes back and changes their entire life story by just cursing him out saying that she doesn't have to be an Everdeen if he just marries her, and she easily proves herself to him because she knows the future. And doesn't fall for the baron guy because she actually finds out that he's a playboy who sees lots of chicks and his mother found love letters to all of them saying the same things with different names LOL
And a story where they both know the future, and she ends up with the baron, he dies anyway because he's a shitty knight, not even in a battle with the north because Theo went to handle that himself this time around. And when Theodore gets back, he ends up with the Ice Princess chick (the one in love with 7th prince) and she dies to the assassination from the 11th princess who then ends up on the throne again. And Anastasia and Theodore end up finding each other again, and work together to bring down the tyranny of the 11th princess and end up falling in love again. A real enemies to lovers story lol
Roderic doesn't really view people as people. He only thinks in what's logical and everything works together like a machine. If anything, Roderic thinks of her more as a pet that he must protect, at this point. I can't entirely get a feel for him because he remembers little things about her like her not wanting coffee or her hobbies. He actually read all of her letters and paying attention by giving thoughtful gifts.
How are they going to do him dirty by giving him bg character 32 face the second panel we see his face in?? I thought his prettiness was going to rival the other two, but I'm just sorely disappointed.
But, she doesn't really view him as an equal. He will always have the upper hand in their relationship, no matter what.
They will never be able to have a proper partnership. I feel kinda bad because he just needs more one-on-one time with her like the other two had. But also, he's honestly the safest person she could be with, being an ability user in refuge. He'd be able to hire the right people to keep her safe at all times.
Honestly, I was hugely rooting for Heath at first. Partly because of my own attraction bias to red haired fun characters, but also because they understood each other on a fundamental level. They both were refugees. They both had rough lives running, and honestly, continue to live the hard life. I liked their bickering to the way he actually care about her and her safety from the start. I thought he was good for her since he gave her the experiences that make life ordinary. Until he put her in danger and made her uncomfortable just so he could have the chance at seeing her eyes again. Honestly, if he approached her saying that he knew from her necklace, and was honest about wanting to see her eyes again, she would have just showed him. It's giving Bella cliff jumping alone vibes and that's just a toxic I can't mesh with. I wanted enemies to lovers, but it was more like frienemies to enemies.
I think she'd be happiest with Ethan. I hated him at first. I thought he was Roderic Curtis, but lied about who was was at first, to try to get close with her without the money hanging over her head, trying to sus her out, ya know? (Turns out actual A.B. isn't that socially clever, and wouldn't think of that.) His "rich boy" mask just pissed me off at first, but he's actually funny?? Socialable?? And as soon as Roderic called him Ethan over the phone, I trusted him a LOT more. But he could he just toss those two unsocialables on the phone together?? Bruh! Hilarious! But rude af! Now that I know this is the REAL enemies to friends to enemies to lovers? Maaaybe
