Omg yes, let's not forget the the inside jokes! I alternated between reading the manhua first, and then reading the novel for the stuff I missed! I livee for their banter (which is dialed up to a 100 in the novel) and comradery and the inside jokes. The author, Wuzhe, made them feel so real, like I was reading about two people I could get to know in real life. The novel is very atmospheric!
how far are you into the novel? btw - they are releasing official english translation last january :) i was thinking of buying it. from the sampe that they released i think the translation is so much better than the official manhua too, the translation looks really smooth!
and yes actually i love the xueba/xuezha inside jokes and how clear it is in the novel that gu fei is literally the only person who can make jiang cheng laughs in such a shit condition … its such an important plot point and relationship development imo
and yeah their struggle feel so real !! and i like that both of them have so many cute little hobbies and expertises (will never get over gu fei + knitting & photography hobby). i think the only thing that’s unrealistic is how many coincidences they have xD like they keep meeting each other from random street encounters to deskmates to neighbors hahahaha. i used to live in a small city and i never accidentally meet my friends this much haha

Unfortunately, the english edition simply doesn't compare to the original Chinese edition. The dust jacket, the extra stuff that comes with the book - it's all top notch w the Chinese edition and I cry we don't have that level of quality with the eng edition.
