Yes they cannot actually feel love. Or at least not in the way we do. Psychopaths can try to mimic the feeling and have lust and they can care about someone, but they don’t actually feel that feeling of love. They can be in relationships though, but their in relationships for entirely different reasons than your average person.
Jeffrey Dahmer a psychopath learned to love and became Christian. He was even killed the same way he killed his first victum without fighting back. Psychopaths lack certain of the preconditions -- e.g., empathy -- necessary to appreciate morality as no one taught them correctly. Think of them as slow in understanding this area as they are handicaped. Just as someone with speech problems needs more help than other people in learning to speek. Now of course, animals and babies can't appreciate morality either just as a psychopath doesn't, and we have the moral obligations in regard to teach them. So we need to teach a psychopath morality just as if they were a baby and continue to do so for a lot longer than we do others. Think of the psycopath as an infant throwing a tantrum that we need to teach what love and empathy is and how to connect them to how thinking about how it will affect all people will benifit the psychopath as well, as they are more analytical in thinking.
Psychopathy, like sociopathy, runs on a spectrum. There are very few that are pure psychopaths or sociopaths, so they do actually have some emotions.so they can feel fear, or even love to some degree, but they do not feel these emotions as strongly as most people.
It’s actually said that Jeffrey wasn’t a psychopath at all, a lot of people debate about it, he was diagnosed with a list of other mental illnesses such as bpd. although he did some insane things he can’t be confirmed to be a psychopath because of all of the other mental illnesses that come into play and what he did and felt doesn’t line up with what qualifies to be a psychopath. For the test they use to determine if someone is a psychopath the maximum score is 40 you have to be at least a 30 to be considered a psychopath and Dahmer scored a 22. Interestingly enough he’s probably not the best example for true psychopathy.
