Can same sex couples in Japan adopt children?

    Circan October 20, 2017 6:00 am

No. Same sex marriage isn't even legal, so I doubt they'll allow same sex couples to adopt.

    Demon.Qu3en October 20, 2017 6:07 am

    That's sad

    Grein M October 21, 2017 5:25 pm

I've heard there are some places in Japan that accept gay marriages but it's very few. Sadly though, gay couple cant adopt. Maybe some day that will change.

Okay not marriage but partnership------Same-sex marriage is not legal in Japan. As of 2017, six cities and city wards have legalized same-sex partnerships, which provide some of the benefits of marriage.[1][2] Koseki household registration allows for some next of kin legal rights. Most polls conducted since 2013 find that a slight majority of Japanese people support the legalization of same-sex marriage or partnerships

doesn't the Shinto religion allow gay marriage and didn't they pass a bill less than a year ago that gave gay couples some rights?

Ohhh. I thought they just put the younger partner in the family registry of thw older partner. I haven't read any bill yet. Will check it out.

Are you referring to the "domestic partnerships" that are acknowledged in certain districts in Tokyo? There are only a few districts that this applies to and you must live together inside those districts for the rights and benefits to apply - I believe the benefits and rights also only apply within those districts. This is not a marriage and it is not overseen by any religious officials. It is simply a legal contract stating two people agree to a domestic partnership. It's very limited, but it is a step in the right direction.

i'm late, but no they cannot. not in japan at least. now i think surrogacy is an option if a same sex couple really really wanted a child, but only one of the men would be named as the legal father, and the surrogate mother would be the legal mother. so one half of the gay couple would be left out. but disregarding this, i've read that most gay couples in japan don't even consider raising a child with their partner just because it's practically unheard of there.

nope, sadly. but it's even more sad that gay men in japan don't even think of raising a child :(

It drives me crazy that a nation that is such an economic, technological and social superpower is about 30 years behind every other first world nation when it comes to LGBT acceptance and rights. In Japan, if you are discovered to be homosexual you can lose your job, your home and even be expelled from school. You don't even have to be caught "inflagrante delecto" on school grounds or at work. You can be seen by a nosy neighbor peeping in the window of your own home and still lose everything. There are no antidiscrimination laws regarding homosexuality. The acceptance of domestic partnerships in certain districts is a step in the right direction, but having some laws that guarantee job and school security would be nice too.

I think it's because same sex relationship is normal in this universe, (๑•ㅂ•)و✧
I mean there was no conversation like "are you straight" or "am I gay" and they even held hands in the broad daylight and there isn't any talk of it is strange and seems like everybody is supporting them and the uke didn't hesitate when the seme asked him if he wants kids so I guess adoption for same sex couples are legal too (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ
