The problem is with Xiaomo is that she is a pussy cat so Shaochen must working 2 times more hard to get her attention and manage to steal some time of her life and having a moment alone between them. You still need to go back and re-read. You obviously don't understand the timeline or the place of the story.

First the place, you don't realize this story is written by a Chinese author? Y'know a person who comes from a country that, from what we can gather, places a high premium on honor? Why would the girl doubt a doctor whom she'd believe was highly honorable? And why would she go looking for a second opinion when she knows, by extension, that even doubting her doctor would reflect negatively on her if it turned out to be untrue? And even disregarding that, she's a poor student from China, in a foreign country, where would she get the money to find this out when not even the PRINCE could find stuff like that out*?

Next the timeline, the story is FICTIONAL. Just because the story is being translated at a slower pace than the actual pace of the story doesn't mean that the former is the true pace. The pace is actually quite FAST when you look at the actual pace. The woman and man are becoming quite close in a very short amount of time. The sister has quickly lost her scheming grasp on the prince. Her stepmother has lost much of her position. The prince is actually reinvestigating the circumstances of his son's birth and even HE is still having trouble finding anything out let ALONE that he has twins*.

And no it doesn't matter how long since a rape happened. Not everyone is the same in the way they process it and that is perfectly acceptable mmkay?
