at first, we only saw tia's mother as a bitch who's mean to her daughter, but her character has fleshed out a lot in these 2 chapters, where I even start to feel kinda bad for her. idk if this is the right way to describe it, but I feel like tia's mom might be bipolar in some sort of way ??? ik she's not hyper and depressed, but the way that Lawrence talks abt her flipping between fits of anger and peace kinda reminds me of it. she can't control her anger (so maybe just anger management issues? lmao) which causes her to harm tia, but she's actually really attached to tia. it seems like tia helps her feel stable, like an anchor in her life, which I can understand after seeing the way Lawrence treats her. as her only daughter and family that she doesn't have to worry abt status/behavior around, it makes sense that she's anxious and feeling desperate abt Tia leaving. she definitely isn't in the right for how she's treated Tia, but I wanted to talk abt it bc her fleshed out character really makes me happy :))
